Violeta del Teide (Viola cheiranthifolia)

Perennial herb, creeping or close-growing. Leaves ovate to spathulate, alternate, entire or dentate, and very pubescent. Three-coloured flower, mainly mauve, with a short spur. This endemic of Tenerife is relegated to Teide National Park, where it is found from 2,000-2,800 m, in stony and rocky terrain, and occasionally on expanses of pumice. Although its distribution area is highly restricted, it can be common in certain zones. Despite being classified as Vulnerable, its conservation is assured within the confines of the national park.
