Verode (Kleinia neriifolia)
Shrub, succulent stems, generally up to 1-1.15 m tall, although it can exceed 2.5 m. A deciduous species, leaves drop with the arrival of the dry season and reappear with the onset of autumnal rain. Leaves are fleshy, lanceolate (up to 12 cm long) and pale green or glaucous. Inflorescences are terminal and many-flowered; umbelliform, the outer flowers are yellow and inner flowers are whitish-yellow. Fruits are numerous and have a pappus, which is a very light, feathery appendage that wafts seeds away on the breeze. This Canary Islands endemic—which is characteristic of Euphorbia communities and can rapidly recolonize abandoned farmland—is found throughout the islands, practically from sea level to 1,000 m.
