Trevina (Lotus glaucus ssp. glaucus)
Creeping or close-growing, highly branched perennial. Leaves rather succulent, with tiny leaflets (up to 5 mm), obovate, elliptic or spathulate. Flowers terminal, arranged in clusters of 1-5, yellowish or orangey, occasionally with reddish tones. A halophyte and native to Madeira, Porto Santo and the Desertas; the subspecies L. salvagensis is found in the Savage Islands. Very common in rocky and stony areas along the shoreline, especially on the north coast of Madeira. Plants of similar characteristics to L. glaucus are found on Fuerteventura, although the taxonomic assignment has yet to be decided and they most likely belong to another species.
