Taraguntía, tacarontilla (Dracunculus canariensis)
Herb with a tuber-like rhizome, which can reach up to 1.5 m. Leaves have a long petiole, are palmate, with 5-7 lobes, and are more or less light green. Inflorescence is a spike of tiny yellow flowers, located within a greenish-white spathe (large bract). Fruits (berries) are very striking, reddish-orange when ripe, forming tight clusters. A native of the Canaries and Madeira, but not recorded in Madeira for almost a century. Typical of thermophile vegetation and evergreen forests, located from 150-900 m, locally common in many areas.
