Tabaiba salvaje (Euphorbia regis-jubae)
Woody shrub, to 2 m, deciduous, rather branched, with caustic or poisonous latex. Leaves are linear-lanceolate, herbaceous, up to 8 cm long. Inflorescences are umbelliform, terminal, with tiny greenish-yellow flowers. Fruits are round and explode with the arrival of the dry season, ejecting tiny seeds over a good distance—a classic example of self-dispersal. This native of the Canary Islands and North Africa is found in Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote (including the islets), and southwest Morocco. Locally common, from sea level to high zones, reaching 1,500 m in Gran Canaria, and often characteristic of lowland Euphorbia communities.
