Salvia canaria, garitopa (Salvia canariensis)
Woody, highly branched shrub, which can exceed 2 m in height. Leaves are long (up to 15 cm), sagittate-lanceolate, herbaceous, dark green on top and white-lanate beneath. Inflorescences are terminal, very striking, flowers are aromatic and violet-pink or white. Endemic to the Canaries, it is distributed throughout the islands, except for the islets, but is considered to have been introduced in El Hierro and Fuerteventura. It grows from sea level up to 1,600 m and is very common in thermophile areas, Euphorbia communities and degraded patches of pine forest.
