Rosalito salvaje (Pterocephalus dumetorus)
Rather compact, woody, highly branched shrub, to 1.5 m. Leaves are broadly lanceolate to ovate, up to 8 cm long, pubescent and light green. Inflorescences terminal of 3-7 small pink flowers. Native to Gran Canaria and Tenerife, it appears from 300-1,600 m, especially in thermophile and pine forests; in Tenerife it is also found in degraded evergreen woodland. Common to rocky habitats, it grows on ravine beds, roadside verges and gently sloping hillsides. In Tenerife, it is relegated to Güímar valley and adjoining areas, where it is locally common, while in Gran Canaria it is abundant in the central peaks. Although records do exist for La Palma, the species may have been confused with another (Pterocephalus porphyranthus) that exists on the island.
