Retamón canario (Teline canariensis)
Shrub, to 3-4 m, erect and highly branched, evergreen foliage, stalks dark grey. Leaves are trifoliate, greyish-green, small, leaflets obovate or round, very downy beneath. Inflorescences are borne in terminal racemes of numerous bright yellow flowers. Legumes have short hairs, up to 3 cm long. This native of the Canaries is only found in Tenerife, where it is locally abundant, and in Gran Canaria, where it is very rare. It has established extensive substitution communities on the edges and within evergreen and fayal-brezal firetree and heath forests, especially in Anaga massif (Tenerife), from 500-1,500 m.
