Piorno (Teline maderensis var. maderensis)

Evergreen shrub, tall (to 6 m) and robust, leaves trifoliate light or greyish-green. Inflorescences terminal, arranged in 6-12 bright yellow flowers. Fruits are legumes with sinuate margins, up to 40 mm long and 8 mm wide. Found in rocky areas and evergreen glades, and covering the peaks and ridges of the island; however, it is rather uncommon. Another variety of this species, T. paivae, is smaller and has different flowers and leaves; it is found in coastal areas of Madeira and the Desertas Islands.
