Orquídea da serra (Dactylorhiza foliosa)

Orchid to 60-80 cm tall, leaves lanceolate, long and narrow, up to 35 cm long and 5 cm wide. Flowers are arranged in a conical inflorescence of striking pink-purple to pale pink flowers with dark markings on the petals (lips). Endemic to Madeira, typical of wet areas of evergreen forest and montane zones, where it is relatively common. It grows on slopes and ledges, as well as on the forest floor, and its range extends from 500 to 1,500 m.
