Mato-botão (Globularia amygdalifolia)

Woody shrub, highly branched, to 2 m, erect and bright green, leaves lanceolate, green when new, becoming greyish. Inflorescences are composed of 4-7 bluish or pink flowers. This species is found on the islands of Santo Antão, São Nicolau, Santiago, Fogo and Brava, especially in precipitous mountainous areas, from 400-2,200 m, although it can grow from 100 m. A very close relative of Globularia salicina, this endemic of the Canary Islands and Madeira is a thermophile. G. amygdalifolia is generally considered vulnerable, but on some islands it is highly endangered, hence its classification as Critically Endangered in Santiago and Endangered in São Nicolau.
