Woody shrub, highly branched, up to 1 m. Leaves lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, narrow, with spiny margins, light or dark green on the top and whitish underneath. Flowers are terminal, yellow, with 1-3 heads per branch, from 2-3.5 cm in diameter. Native to Madeira and the Canary Islands, it is found on all the islands of Madeira, the Desertas and Porto Santo, and throughout the Canaries, except for La Palma and the eastern islets. It grows from 200-1,600 m over a wide range of vegetation types.
