Malfurada grande, malfurada (Hypericum grandifolium)
Woody shrub, up to 2 m, highly branched, with arched or curved stems. Leaves are elliptic to ovate, with a short leaf stalk, dark green and up to 8 cm long. Bright yellow flowers, 1.5-4 cm in diameter, arranged in terminal inflorescences. Fruits (capsules), dark brown, containing many tiny seeds. Native to the Canary Islands and Madeira, mainly found between 500 and 1,500 m, although it can spread to higher (sometimes up to 2,000 m) and lower levels. Characteristic of evergreen woodland in both Madeira and the Canaries, in the latter it can be found throughout the islands, although it is very rare and highly localized in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. Fairly abundant in many areas, it is therefore not considered an endangered species.
