Madama de risco (Allagopappus canariensis)

Small woody shrub, rather branched, branches erect or hanging, according to location, up to 1.2 m tall. Leaves oblanceolate, serrate, dark green, sticky. Inflorescences are umbelliform, terminal, with numerous small bright yellow flowers. This rupicolous species grows on cliffs, hillsides, ravine walls and malpaíses or badlands, from sea level to 1,000 m. This Canary Island native is found in La Gomera, Tenerife, Gran Canaria and El Hierro, although there are no recent sightings for the latter. Abundant in many areas, it is therefore not considered an endangered species. Another species, Allagopappus viscosissimus, is exclusive to Gran Canaria; this genus is endemic to the Canary Islands.
