Llantén fino (Plantago asphodeloides)
Small annual (therophyte) plant, erect and branched from the base. Leaves are linear, thread-like, herbaceous and somewhat downy, up to 8 cm long. Inflorescences are long and thin, with numerous tiny flowers. This native of the Canaries is found in Gran Canaria, Tenerife and La Gomera, where it mainly grows in low-lying areas, within Euphorbia communities, from 20-900 m. Annual abundance depends very much on rainfall, resulting in locally common new growth in some years and practically none in others. It grows in earthy, stony and rocky terrain, including malpaíses or badlands.
