Leituga (Tolpis macrorhiza)

Perennial herb, up to half a metre tall, though generally smaller. It is completely glabrous; the lower leaves are petiolate and the higher sessile, rather fleshy, serrate and brilliant green. Flowers are numerous and are bright yellow. A rupicolous species, characteristic of wet zones and found on all outcrops and slopes in areas of evergreen forest and high montane vegetation. An endemic of Madeira, it is relatively common locally.
