Funcho (Tornabenea insularis)
Perennial herb, erect and branched, up to 1 m. Leaves are uni- or bi-pinnate, broadly oblong to deltoid-ovate, up to 30 cm long. Flowers are white, occasionally with pink veins, arranged in umbels of up to 9 cm in diameter, with around 60 ray florets. The distribution of this Cape Verde endemic encompasses São Vicente, São Nicolau and Brava. It is found from 70-1,300 m, although it flourishes above 600 m, where there is more moisture. As occurs with other species of this genus, it is rupicolous and particularly abundant on the north-facing crags of São Nicolau. It has therefore been given the general classification of Least Concern, but is considered vulnerable on São Vicente and Brava.
