Funcho (Tornabenea annua)
Annual or biennial plant. Rather fragile, up to 80 cm. Branched near the base. Leaves pinnate, up to 35 cm. Umbel rather long, up to 7.5 cm in diameter. Found in the mountainous regions of the island of Santiago, mainly restricted to the two most important mountain ranges, Serra do Pico da Antónia and Serra da Malagueta, between 340 and 1,000 m, but particularly above 650 m. Despite being relatively abundant and widely distributed over the island, it has been categorized as Vulnerable, due to habitat destruction through cultivation.
