Beetle (Buprestis bertheloti)

A Canary Island endemic closely associated with pinewoods and therefore not present on the eastern islands. Adults are relatively abundant and common in summer, while the wood-boring larvae live inside the branches and dead trunks of the Canary pine throughout their development, which may take more than two years. This large beetle (20-25 mm) has a dark green back and coppery abdomen, with densely sculptured integuments and longitudinally striated wing covers, dotted with the yellow spots that give this insect its characteristic appearance.
