Ensaião (Aichryson divaricatum)
Annual or biennial herb, up to 60 cm. Totally glabrous, with a dark green stem and dichotomous (opposite) branching. Leaves are entire, glossy and rather succulent, rhomboidal or rhomboidal-orbicular. Flowers are small and yellow, and arranged in dense many-flowered inflorescences. An endemic of Madeira and typical of the rupicolous communities of wet areas of evergreen forest, it is also found growing on tree trunks. Locally common, its range of distribution falls between 100 and 1,000 m, in Madeira and the Desertas Islands, but it is far rarer in the latter.
