Cresta de gallo, crestagallo (Isoplexis canariensis)

Shrub up to 1.5-2 m, occasionally highly branched and well-developed. Leaves lanceolate or slightly ovate, with serrate margins, and shiny dark green. Flowers are orangey-red and form an almost conical inflorescence. Native to the Canary Islands and typical of evergreen and fayal-brezal firetree and heath forests, this plant is found between 400 and 1,200 m and is very common locally, specifically in Tenerife (e.g., in the massifs of Anaga and Teno, and in the Acentejo region). It has also been cited for La Gomera and La Palma, where it is extremely rare. Flowers are pollinated by birds and are visited by small passeriform birds, particularly the Canary Islands chiffchaff (Phylloscopus canariensis).
