Corazoncillo de Lanzarote (Lotus lancerottensis)
Creeping or close-growing perennial, with a woody base. Leaves of three leaflets, small (3-5 mm), obovate, pubescent, glaucous or green. Flowers in clusters of 3-5, terminal or axillary, yellow with an orangey tinge. Fruits (legumes) narrow and blackish. This native of the Canaries and Madeira only grows along the southern coast of Madeira and in the Canaries is found only in the eastern islands, including the islets of Alegranza, Montaña Clara, La Graciosa and Lobos. In Fuerteventura, it ranges from sea level to 800 m, on pumice or sandy soils such as malpaíses or badlands, stony hillsides and abandoned farmland. It is abundant and can be used for forage.
