Corazoncillo de costa (Lotus tenellus)

Creeping or close-growing perennial, with a woody base and thin, flexible horizontal branches. Leaves composite, small (4-5 mm), oblanceolate and slightly downy. Flowers yellow, borne singly or in pairs, narrow brown legumes, up to 3 cm long. Native to the Canaries and relegated to the central islands (Gran Canaria and Tenerife), where it is found along the north coast among halophytic and xeric vegetation, up to around 400 m. Locally very common, it sometimes forms carpet-like expanses with other herbaceous shrubs typically found on the coast.
