Contra-Bruxas-Azul (Campanula jacobaea)
Exclusive to Cape Verde and found on the islands of Santo Antão, São Vicente, São Nicolau and Santiago. Small, highly branched, woody at base; flowers generally blue or dark purple, occasionally white. It grows on rocky outcrops and hillsides in more or less humid areas, particularly above 500-600 m, up to 1,000 m. This plant is used in traditional medicine and has potential as an ornamental, though it has seldom been used for that purpose to date. Because of its striking flowers and unquestionable attractiveness, it could be chosen as the plant symbol of Cape Verde.
