Codeso de cumbre (Adenocarpus viscosus)

Dense, viscous, highly branched shrub. Leaves petiolate, short and densely fascicled, dark green. Flowers are yellow, the calyx with glandular papillae. Legume has sparse hairs and is equally papillous. A native of the Canaries, especially La Palma, La Gomera and Tenerife, where it has two subspecies: A. viscosus, found in La Gomera and Tenerife, and A. spartioides, found in La Palma. This shrub is one of the most characteristic features of the high montane scrub of Tenerife and La Palma, above 1,800 m, where it can be abundant and dominant, producing almost monospecific communities, particularly evident in La Palma. It also appears in the undergrowth of high-altitude pine forests on both islands.
