Cabezón de Madeira (Cheirolophus massonianus)
Small shrub, up to 60 cm tall, densely branched. Leaves entire, lanceolate or elliptic, up to 8 cm long and 1.4 cm wide. Pink or pinkish-purple flowers are borne singly at the end of stems. Rarely seen in the natural habitat, this endemic of Madeira and Porto Santo grows in rocky areas, in isolated populations. In recent times, it has disappeared from some spots, such as certain peaks of Porto Santo, where it was recorded in the past but where no specimen has been sighted in the last few years.
