Cerrajón herreño (Sonchus hierrensis)
Woody shrub, to 1.5 m tall. Leaves are dark green, long and many-lobed, lobes up to 2 cm wide, with serrate margins. The inflorescence is branched with numerous yellow flowers, 2-3 cm across. A native of El Hierro, La Palma and La Gomera, found from 100 m up to 1,500 m. A typical feature of rupicolous areas of evergreen, fayal-brezal firetree and heath, and pine forests, and cultivated lands at mid-altitude, usually growing on stone hedges.
