Carqueja (Limonium jovi-barba)

Small shrub (up to 40 cm), with numerous spathulate leaves up to 11 cm long and 3.5 cm wide. Flowers are arranged in a lax panicle, up to 44 cm long, pinkish. This species is only found on two Barlovento Islands, São Vicente and São Nicolau, in humid and subhumid rupicolous habitats between 50 and 770 m, although it is more common at 200-600 m. It grows alongside other important endemics of Cape Verde, such as Aeonium gorgoneum. Distribution is very restricted on both islands and it has been classified as rare.
