Bejeque rojo (Aeonium nobile)

Unbranched, robust, up to 60 cm. Leaves form a basal rosette and are large, fleshy, obovate to suborbicular, with ciliate margins and red markings. The inflorescence is large and composed of numerous deep red flowers, which lend the plant a striking appearance, even from a distance. Native to La Palma, found especially in the west (Valle de Aridane, Barranco de Las Angustias ravine, Tijaraje, etc.) and more rarely on the eastern and southern flanks, in semi-arid and subhumid zones at between 200 and 800 m altitude. The species can be locally common and is a characteristic feature of rupicolous vegetation. One of the most attractive bejeques to be found in the Canaries, it has high ornamental value.
