Anís salvaje, anís de risco (Bupleurum salicifolium)

Woody shrub, highly branched, up to 2 m. Leaves linear-lanceolate, light green to glaucous, up to 10 cm long, 10 nerves more or less parallel. Inflorescences terminal, lax; umbels of 10-20 yellow flowers. Fruits are black or brown. Native to Madeira and the Canary Islands, it has two subspecies: B. salicifolium, present in Madeira, Porto Santo, La Gomera and El Hierro; and B. aciphyllum, found throughout the central and western Canary Islands (Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro). Typical of the thermophile zone, it often grows on rock, at 400 to 1,000 m, sometimes in rather dense communities; in Madeira it also grows in evergreen woodland.
