Algahuera, salado lanudo (Chenoleoides tomentosa)

Small perennial herb, although it can exceed 50 cm in height, with horizontal branches. Stems and leaves tomentose, greyish-green; leaves are somewhat fleshy, oval, linear or lanceolate, up to 1 cm long. Flowers are tiny, reddish-yellow, emerging in the axils of the upper leaves. An endemic of Macaronesia and North Africa, and found throughout the archipelagos of Madeira, the Savage and Canary Islands. In Northwest Africa, it extends along the Atlantic seaboard from South Morocco to Mauritania. Very common in coastal and inland sandy areas, as well as on gravelly flatlands, sandy slopes, clay soils and even malpaíses or badlands. It sometimes dominates the landscape and can grow to over 600 m.
